October 2020

What’s happening?
Between October 2020 and February 2021, the Village of McBride is carrying out an Age Friendly Assessment and Action Plan to look at age friendly assets, barriers, and opportunities in McBride. As part of the project, the Village will be conducting community engagement to find out McBride’s current age-friendly strengths and challenges. The resulting Action Plan will identify opportunities to make McBride more age-friendly including, improvements to existing infrastructure and services.

What is Age Friendly Planning?
An age friendly community is one that supports older adults and seniors in actively participating in their community and where everyone is treated with respect, regardless of their age. The project will look at the age friendliness within McBride’s public spaces, transportation, housing, social participation, civic inclusion, employment and volunteerism, communication, and health supports.

This work is being conducted by a community planning consultant EcoPlan International, in collaboration with Village of McBride staff. Our process includes three phases:

Phase 1: Community Assessment (October- November)

Phase 2: Stakeholder and Community Engagement (November- December)

Phase 3: Final Assessment and Action Plan (January- February)

We want to hear from you!

Between November and January, we will be reaching out to hear from you through surveys, focus groups, and an open house. Look for more details here in the weeks and months to come.

Funding for this project comes from the Union of BC Municipalities.
